Willows on The Roof at John Lewis: The Guinea Pig Review

Willows on The Roof: John Lewis

Looking for a cute rooftop winter garden? Search no further. Willows on The roof is the perfect place to snuggle up and live your best sleeping beauty life.

Perched at the top of John Lewis on Oxford street, this wooded winter wonderland is one of the largest rooftop gardens in London. Let’s jump into the juicy details…

Decor

The space may have started off as a bland department store roof, but by the grace of Night Tales, it has been transformed into a woodland paradise. Willow trees (hence the name) fill out the entire place, and dreamy fairy lights, illuminate the skies.

If you’re not one for embracing UK winters, then fear not, there are parts which are sheltered with heaters, and even a tiny bit which is classed as “inside”. Or, if you can gather a few friends, or want to impress your date, book one or their cabins for a semi-private evening.

Food

The American-Italian style menu by Giz ‘n’ Green consists of bbq wings, tater tots and meatball marinara pizza. There are of course a variety of salads, and “regular” pizzas to choose from too. A warning for my gluten free readers, they unfortunately don’t provide any gluten free pizza bases, so be prepared for a healthy salad instead.

The portions are pretty impressive. Especially for the price.

After your mains, if you’ve still not frozen to the core, grab an ice cream sandwich for dessert. Vegan options are available.

Drinks

I’m a sucker for a themed cocktail, and Willows on The Roof did not disappoint. The winter woodland fantasy continues into the cocktail menu, with options like mulled gin and juice, or a mulled negroni, rum on the roof and a gingerbread sour.

They have also selected quite a nice array of wines and craft beers if you’d prefer.

Price

Usually, these kinds of themed bars know they will draw a crowd, and make the most of it by cranking up the prices.

Thankfully, Willows on The Roof is pretty reasonable. The average price for a pizza is around £14, and the rather large salads come in at only £10.

For a beer or a glass of wine, you’re looking at £6, with cocktails at £12ish.

Overall

Avoid the crowds at Winter Wonderland, and go to Willows on The Roof instead. Book a private cabin, an outdoor table or play it safe indoors here.
