Crazy Pizza: The Guinea Pig Review

Crazy Pizza

Crazy Pizza is no ordinary pizza joint.

If you’ve been on Instagram recently, I guarantee you will have seen the show that is Crazy Pizza. With branches in Marleybone, Knightsbridge and overseas, this restaurant is far from standard. I visited the Knightsbridge branch, and this is what I thought…

Atmosphere and experience

Straight out of Knightsbridge station, you will see Crazy Pizza’s beautiful flower display on the corner of Basil Street and Hans Crescent. Depending on what time you get there, you could mistake it for just another pretty Italian Restaurant. But don’t.

This quaint little spot is full of black and white photos of your favourite celebrities eating pizza. Whether they were taken at a Crazy Pizza is up for discussion. The rest of the decor gives a slight nod to old school Italy, with a modern twist, including a live DJ in amongst the tables.

If you’re solely coming for the pizza spinning, get there later. Crazy Pizza say that the chefs spin show is “random” however they clearly only do it when all the tables are full. This happened around 9pm. It’s definitely worth the wait.

The music turns up, the chef steps out of the kitchen and the simultaneous clapping begins. Get your cameras ready.  This isn’t the chef showing us how he spins a pizza in the kitchen, he’s putting on a show. Going table to table, even spinning while he (almost) twerks on the floor.

After this, there are a few more party tunes playing while the waiters, and customers, wave their napkins around and whoop. If you were planning to go home after dinner, this will definitely get you in the mood to party!

Food

I knew the food was going to be good when I had my first bite of the bread that was presented shortly after I sat down. Warm, crispy and slightly salty. It was like no other starter bread I had eaten before. I was excited.

Crazy Pizza make healthy pizzas, well kind of. Their yeast free dough means that it is slightly healthier, and deliciously crispier than your average pizza base.

But what makes Crazy Pizza crazy, apart from the spin show and party vibes? The toppings. Expect everything from smoked salmon and crème fraîche to sausage and fries. Don’t worry if you don’t fancy being daring though, there are some tamer options too.

Unfortunately I was too full for dessert but had the chance to see neighbouring tables be served theirs. The desserts are “made” at the table, however it just looked like a lot of chopping and moving about to me. The tiramisu did look good though.

Service

Outstanding. From walking in, to being served, the service was brilliant. Every single member of staff was friendly, helpful and seamless at their jobs. It really added to the already brilliant experience.

Overall

Crazy Pizza is the perfect place for dinner and drinks before a night out. Or in my case, a random Thursday after work. If you get the opportunity to go, take it. Book your table here
